The sacraments are the channels through which grace flows. We utilize the Sacraments of Healing and Penance to cleanse our souls from demonic influence and restore our spiritual health.

Vigilance

Constant awareness is our first line of defense. We maintain a state of spiritual vigilance, recognizing the subtle signs of demonic interference and acting with faith and courage.

Armor of God (Pauls letter to the Epeshians 6:13-17)

Finally, draw your strength from the Lord and from his mighty power. 11 Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens. 13 Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground. 14 So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, 15 and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all [the] flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Belt of Truth

Truth Holds Everything Together

For Catholics, this is living in Christ, who is Truth, rejecting lies, especially self-deception and rationalizing sin. It includes fidelity to Church teaching and integrity of life.

Shield of Faith

Used to Extinguish “the flaming arrows of the evil one”

Faith protects against doubts, temptations, despair, fear, and lies. In Catholic life, this faith is strengthened through Scripture, the Sacraments, prayer, and trust in God, especially in trials.

Breastplate of Richeousness

The Breastplate Protects the Heart

This refers to living in a state of grace, striving for holiness through virtue, repentance, and obedience to God. It’s not self-righteousness, but righteousness received from God and lived out through love.

Helmet of Salvation

Protects the Mind

This is hope in salvation, confidence that Christ has already won the victory at the cross and we can gain salvation through faith, repentance and forgiveness of sins. It guards against discouragement, hopelessness, and spiritual confusion.

Shoes of the Gospel of Peace

These Give Stability And Readiness

They symbolize being grounded in the Gospel, ready to walk in peace, charity, forgiveness, and evangelization, even when life is difficult.

Sword of the Spirit

The Word of God and the only offensive weapon

This is Sacred Scripture and the gospel of Jesus Christ proclaimed, prayed, and lived. Catholics especially wield this sword through Scripture read within the Church, often in prayerful forms like Lectio Divina.
